A informação foi confirmada por sua família, que pediu respeito e privacidade neste momento de luto.

Nascido em Londres em 1938, Stamp iniciou sua trajetória nos palcos teatrais e rapidamente ganhou destaque em Hollywood, sendo indicado ao Oscar por sua atuação em Billy Budd (1962). Na década de 1960, tornou-se símbolo da era do “Swinging London”, participando de obras marcantes como O Colecionador (1965), Longe Deste Insensato Mundo (1967) e Teorema (1968).

Após um período dedicado ao recolhimento e à espiritualidade na Índia, retornou às telas com novos sucessos, conquistando diferentes gerações em produções como Priscilla, a Rainha do Deserto (1994), Operação Valquíria (2008) e Os Agentes do Destino (2011).
